MDOT MTA ENCOURAGES RIDERS TO PLAN AHEAD DURING MARYLAND CYCLING CLASSIC, FLEET WEEK

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Delays Expected in Downtown Baltimore Due to Road Closures, Increased Traffic

BALTIMORE, MD (September 2, 2022) The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is encouraging customers to plan ahead and allow extra time to get to their destinations in downtown Baltimore during major events being held early this month. The Maryland Cycling Classic will be held Sunday, September 4, over the Labor Day weekend, and the weeklong Maryland Fleet Week & Flyover runs Wednesday, September 7, through Tuesday, September 13. In addition, the Baltimore Orioles have 10 home games scheduled at Oriole Park at Camden Yards from September 2 to September 11.

“Our team at MDOT MTA is committed to providing a quality experience to our riders, and that includes keeping them informed of service impacts affecting their commute,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Holly Arnold. “I want to encourage our riders to allow for extra travel time during these events and thank them for their patience.”

During the Maryland Cycling Classic, several CityLink and LocalLink bus lines will divert to alternate routes due to road closures. A full list of affected routes and anticipated detours can be found online at mta.maryland.gov/mcc2022. Riders can also check the service alert section of the MDOT MTA website for the most up-to-date information, and follow MDOT MTA on Twitter @mtamaryland and Facebook at facebook.com/mtamaryland/.

MDOT MTA recommends that riders use the Transit app to help navigate the system. The free app offers real-time schedules, predicted arrival times and step-by step navigation for all fixed-route service including Light Rail, Local Bus and Metro Subway. Riders who use the app also receive alerts on any service disruptions.
