MDOT’s MTA Light Rail to Temporarily Close in Downtown Baltimore for Track Work

Bus Bridge will be in place February 3-5 to get MTA customers around closed Light Rail stations in the City’s Central Business District

BALTIMORE, MD (FEBRUARY 1, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will halt Light Rail service from February 3-5 along Howard and Pratt Streets in Baltimore City’s Central Business District for needed track repairs.

The shutdown will begin on Friday, February 3, at 6:00 p.m. and last through the weekend, with service resuming as usual at 5 a.m. on the morning of Monday, February 6.

Light Rail stations that will be closed include Penn Station, University of Baltimore/Mount Royal, Cultural Center/State Center, Centre Street, Lexington Market, University Center and Convention Center.

To minimize the inconvenience to customers, MTA will provide a free shuttle bus service in both directions for passengers from the Camden Yards Light Rail station to the North Avenue station.  The bus will stop at each of the closed stations during normal hours.

“The safety of our customers is our number one priority,” said MTA Deputy Administrator Suhair Al Khatib. “Not only will this track work help to increase safety for the transit riding public, it will enhance the efficiency and reliability of the entire Light Rail system.”

Al Khatib asked that customers plan ahead and allow extra time when using MTA Light Rail service this weekend.

If inclement weather forces a postponement of the project, it will be moved to the following weekend, starting February 10 and ending February 12.
